It is very well known drink in India, where people drink it before going to bed, as we drink hot chocolate or warm milk. The drink is known for centuries now, since traditional Ayurveda medicine practices it for 5000 years.
Ginger is very healthy because of its anti-inflammatory properties and is proven to prevent heartburn and nausea.
Coconut milk is also important ingredient, because it is rich in healthy fats and has antimicrobial properties.
Turmeric, the magical ingredient has anti-inflammatory properties which help with digestion and prevent ulcers from formatting.
Black pepper is added to the drink to help our body absorb curcumin in turmeric and honey is there not only to enhance the wonderful flavor of all the ingredients, but is rich in enzymes, amino acids, vitamins and minerals which can all help improve digestion and soothe irritation in the digestive tract.
Turmeric-Coconut Bedtime Drink Recipe:
- 2 cups coconut milk
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1-inch piece of sliced ginger root
- Honey to taste
Add all ingredients except the honey together in a bowl and whisk together. Pour into a saucepan and heat until it is at a low boiling and bubbling. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 5 minutes.
Strain out the ginger root, add the honey and enjoy while warm.
