Pegan diet is basically a combination of Paleo and Vegan diet (Paleo + Vegan=Pegan). Dr Mark Hyman says the secret lies in the way how we combine ingredients, and it is all about choosing the healthies ones. You should forget all the diets which recommend: include this and exclude that, since they can be very confusing. ’ I vote for being a Pegan or Paleo-Vegan, which is what I have chosen for myself and recommend for most of my patients’ the doctor says.
Here are the characteristics of a healthy diet everyone agrees on:
- Very low glycemic load – low in sugar, flour and refined carbohydrates of all kinds.
- Variety of vegetables and fruits – it provides all the nutrients, mineral and vitamins needed.
- Quality fats – omega 3 fats are essential.
- Proteins – for muscle building and appetite control
If you change your eating habits according to this diet, you don’t have to worry about how much you eat, but what you eat – your body’s natural appetite control system will make you eat less.
It is important to focus on the glycemic load. Also, focus on more protein and fats. Do not eat unhealthy fats, but try to consume more omega 3 fats, nuts, coconut, and avocados.
Add nuts and seeds since they are full of protein, minerals, and good fats because they surely lower the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
Do not eat dairy, but if you must, go for the organic.
Avoid gluten, because it is proven gluten can trigger auto-immune diseases and other health complications.
Whatever you choose, always keep in mind the diet must be well-balanced and all the essential ingredients must be included.
