What This Study Had Discovered?

The main thing this study evaluated were the health effect of extra virgin coconut oil when used in nutritional treatment. The focus was on how all of that affects HDL cholesterol and also the range of anthropometric measurements, such as body weight and size.

In the study, the average age of patients, which participated was 62.4 with deviation of 7.7 years, and that means that there were 70% of the elderly. Also, the 63.2% of the participants were males. All patients were hypertensive and 94.5% had also blood lipid profiles that showed dyslipidemia.

In the first three months, 136 participants were on a standardized diet, but after that, only the 116 people who actually completed the first phase were sorted into two groups. Fist group, which included 22 people, remained on the diet, and the second group, with 92 people, was put on the diet, but besides that they also got 13 ml of extra virgin coconut oil, equivalent to one tablespoon.

What Happened?

The results of this study were really amazing. They showed that the group with coconut oil had a decrease in all of the bodily parameters measured in the study, and besides that all people from the coconut oil intervention group had also an increase in HDL or so called good cholesterol.
