Swedish bitters is an alcoholic herbal mix tincture. This mixture is one of the most important must have remedies in your home. Swedish bitters is a remedy that heals various issues.
The tincture is excellent for both internal and external use. It treats various wounds, swellings, cuts, inflammations, scars, etc. Heavier medical conditions are treated by internal use of mixture.
It is an old recipe with proven treatment. It is believed it dates from ancient Egypt. In the 16th century the recipe was developed by the unknown Swiss doctor, and then the recipe was redeveloped by the Swedish Dr Samst, and with its help he lived a long and healthy life, dying at 104 from falling of his bicycle. After being forgotten for quite a while, in the modern times Maria Treben, famous herbalist, found the Dr Samst’s recipe. Then she began reusing it again, and wrote texts about it, describing its powerful benefits. The recipe includes numerous different ingredients.
You may also make the elixir yourself, following Dr Samst recipe:
- 10g angelica root (angelica archangelica)
- 10g manna (fraxinus ornus)
- 10g camphor (cinnamomum camphora)
- 10g aloe
- 10g rhubarb root (rheum palmatum)
- 10g senna (senna alexandrina)
- 10g theriac Venetian (theriac) (a mixture of many herbs and other substances)
- 10g curcuma (longae rhizoma)
- 10g myrrh
- 5g carline thistle root (carlina acaulis)
- 0,2g saffron
Place the herbal mix into a wide-necked 2 liter bottle glass bottle and add 1,5 liter of rye or fruit spirit that contain 38-40% alcohol. Keep the bottle for 14 days standing in the sun or anywhere near heat (stove for example). Make sure to shake the bottle gently every day. After the 14 days, do the same before pouring the mixture into the smaller bottles, also before using the elixir. Keep the lids well sealed and store in a cool and dry place.
