What are the groceries preventing cancer
Are there groceries that can help us cure diseases, treat complicated conditions, strengthen our immune system or destroy cancer cells? The doctor who successfully fought cancer gives us plenty of information.
16 years ago Dr David Servan-Schreiber was diagnosed with brain cancer. He had a chemotherapy, went into remission and then it came back. He had 2 surgeries and spent 13 months in his second chemotherapy. Then he asked his oncologist whether his diet can help with treatment and the doctor said: ’you can eat whatever you want. It will not affect your therapy.’
This answer did not surprise him much because nutrition science is not being taught seriously at universities, as he knew. One of his colleagues told him: ’David, you may be right about changing the diet and helping your system in that way, but people do not want to change. They want to take a pill and not think about it anymore.’
David did not give up. He believed his doctor was wrong and he started his journey around the world, looking for nutrients that could help him fight his cancer. David wrote a book ’ Anticancer, a new way of life’ in which he described his discovering.
In search for cure
After a long research, he discovered there are many anticancer groceries and nutrients and he made a long list of them. Some items are anti-inflammatory while other kills cancer cells. Besides them, there are nutrients that help us get rid of toxins and the ones that protect us from free radicals. He discovered that most of them do not help with just one thing, but with whole range of different issues. Compared to expensive drugs that doctors prescribe, eating healthy food costs you almost nothing and have no side effects.
Anticancer diet is the opposite of what most Americans eat. You should be eating various vegetables, different legumes, olive and flaxseed oil, garlic and herbs. Meat and eggs can be occasionally eaten.
Drinks that cure
Green tea David realized it is excellent for cancer treatment because it is rich in polyphenols, including catechins, which reduce the growth of new blood vessels that feed the tumor. Besides, green tea is a powerful antioxidant that removes toxins from our system, making the cancer cells die.
Green teas from Japan (sencha, gyokuro i matcha) contain more catechins than Chinese green tea, he concluded. Black tea, like Earl Grey or Oolong tea is not that powerful since they are fermented, and they lost polyphenols in the process.
Drink tea, 2 or 3 cups after you prepared it, but do not wait more than 1 hour. The best time is 10 minutes after preparing it, since the catechins are being released into the water.
Oriental medicine had been using it for thousands of years. It is believed it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and studies have shown that it significantly slows down the development of the most aggressive forms of prostate cancer. Drink it every day, and slowing down of the development of prostate cancer may be reached by more than 50 percent, according to Dr. Servan-Schreiber.
Fresh ginger and Turmeric, has strong anti-inflammatory activity and interferes with tumor growth. In addition, ginger tea helps fight nausea during chemotherapy. Curcumin is an ingredient of curry, but it represented only 20%, so it is better to use independently.

Isoflavonoids in soybean (including genistein, daidzein, and glycitein) inhibit the growth of tumor and prevent the hormones making the tumors grow. It is interesting that women from Asia, who have a long tradition of eating soy and its products are less affected with breast cancer, and if they become ill, have less aggressive forms that are easier to treat.
People who eat fish at least twice a week have a significantly lower risk of getting various forms of cancer. Fish is rich in Omega-3 acids which are anti-inflammatory and lower the risk of cancer. Sardines would be an excellent choice. Try out a wild salmon too. And whenever possible eat fresh rather than frozen fish because omega-3 decays in time.
Fruit that heals
Oranges, tangerines, lemons and grapefruit contain anti-inflammatory compounds – flavonoids that stimulate the detoxification of carcinogens. From organically grown fruits use grated rind which is also very healthy.
– Berries Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and cranberries contain acids and polyphenols that prevent the growth of tumors. Eat them for breakfast with soy milk and whole grain cereals like oats. Equally is effective frozen as well as fresh.
– A Healing Dessert Enjoy antioxidant rich dark chocolate containing 70% cocoa. It is rich in numerous antioxidants, polyphenols and other compounds which actively fight against the tumor. A piece of quality chocolate is healthier than a glass of red wine and as good as a cup of green tea.
We haven’t found an alternative approach which alone cures cancer, so Dr. Servan-Schreiber believes that the best of conventional medicine – surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy – should be used during treatment. But it is foolish to ignore the capacity that our body has, to fight cancer. He believes that his survival is largely due to the change of diet and being more active.
