Scientists from Technical University in Dortmund, Germany published results of study where they described method with which this team of scientists, with a little help of genetic engineering made yeast that can produce active ingredients of medical cannabis, THC and CBD actually.
If you didn’t know, THC is psychoactive chemical ingredient in medical cannabis, while CBD is phytocannabinoid and it is in more than 40% of the plant extract, and because of that it is believed CBD has more medical usage over the THC.
Synthetic THC is already sold in various markets, under the name of Casemeta, and it is used in medical purposes for people with HIV and cancer.
German scientists believe that genetically modified yeast, which can produce these chemicals, can be more profitable, than to isolate the chemicals from medical cannabis.
In this study, they only describe the sort of yeast, which produces THC, while information about CBD is still unknown.
The usage of that method can produce small amounts of THC, but the team of scientists still hopes that they will improve the process of manufacture very soon. Because of that, they team up with THC Pharm from Frankfurt.
