Deep Breathing and its Advantages

Most of us have no clue how we’re all breathing. It represents something that our body does automatically, which means we’re often found unaware of our lungs contracting. Unfortunately, our breathing is mostly shallow, which is actually bad for our health. Deep breathing should certainly be a big part of your everyday life. It helps you live longer, makes you happier and energetic as well.
Proper breathing should be deep and slow, done through the nose, not the mouth. Additionally, you have to attempt to breathe deeply into your abdomen.
Every deep breath should last up to five seconds breathing in and up to five seconds breathing out.
Deep breathing is also called diaphragmatic breathing, abdominal breathing, or even belly breathing.
One good thing about it all is that you can take deep breaths anywhere. It’s known that a short session of 10 minutes of deep breathing twice a day will give you an impact on your physical and mental health.

Deep breathing is very easy to do. To perform it:

  • Lie down on your back and make sure you’re free from distracting things.
  • Put your hands on your abdomen and relax all your muscles.
Inhale through your nose, expanding your abdomen.
  • Count to 5, hold your breath and count to 3.
  • After that, exhale slowly through your mouth, making sure your lungs get emptied.
  • Again, count to 5 while you exhale.
  • Continue doing these steps for up to 10 minutes.

Do this type of exercise in the morning and before going to bed.

Finally, we have some health advantages of deep breathing for you:

  1. Reduces stress – deep breathing sends a message to your brain to relax. That same message gets sent to the rest of the body afterwards.
The next time you find yourself stressed, make sure to go to a quiet place and take in some deep breaths.
  2. Detoxifies the entire body – as those toxins can make us suffer from fatigue, weight gain and muscle loss, deep breathing enhances the efficiency of our lungs by improving the entire lymphatic system, which releases us from harmful toxins.
  3. Improves lungs – diaphragmatic breathing is essential for expanding the lung tissues, because it can definitely help prevent pneumonia.
This entire process feeds more oxygen to the body, and without it, people can end up with heart disease.
